Denmark has started a completely new development programme of DKK 130 million with Pakistan for the period 2010-2012. The main focus of the programme is education, reconstruction of infrastructure in the conflict- and flood affected areas and support for democracy, human rights and media.
Denmark will grant USD DKK 50 million to UNICEF’s efforts to provide education for children in Khyber Pakhtunkwa, and when the situation permits it – also in FATA. Without proper schooling the risk of both poverty and radicalism increases. The assistance will contribute to rebuild the 473 schools that have been entirely or partially destroyed.
Denmark has also supported Pakistan with another DKK 130 million in extraordinary humanitarian aid after the flooding in 2010.
